Transfer your Children’s School [Milestone #13]

Nothing is more important than ensuring that your children have a smooth transition to their new home and environment. A key factor in this is selecting the perfect school for them to attend and ensuring that you take all the steps that are necessary in order to get them enrolled right away.

Start doing some investigating!

    • Speak to someone that is familiar with the area and the school systems and get their opinions of both the public and private schools.
    • Find out each school’s recent standardized test scores
    • Make a list of all extracurricular activities and programs that each school has to offer
    • Consider location and proximity to your new home. Are any of them in walking distance?
    • Contact each school to see if they are accepting transfer students

Once you have chosen the school that is the best fit for your children it is time to make sure you have everything in place to get them enrolled.

    • Set up a meeting with the school counselor to clarify any questions you may have and obtain the necessary transferee paperwork.
    • Get a copy of your children’s immunization records, birth certificate and proof of residence
    • Update your children’s current school with their final day and provide them with a copy of the transferee paperwork

Share the knowledge of your children’s new school with them. Learning about all of the new clubs, sports teams and activities that they can join will help get them excited and eager for your move!

Milestones are compiled and added into our new “widget” feature coming soon to Alliance Relocation Services website for movers and companies.  Will be featured articles all summer.
